Applications are invited for the above post within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology, (see: https:// www. nottingham.ac.uk/utc), in the Division of Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The department has an excellent international reputation for high quality theoretical and experimental research funded by EPSRC, DTI, EU and manufacturing industry.

The person appointed will be based in the area of design and control of Mechatronic systems for aero-Engine production. In this role, you will be at the forefront of research that offers significant technological challenges and innovations, with an aim to improve the quality in design of mechatronics for aerospace production lines. As a result, this position offers the opportunity for close collaboration with industrial partners in particular Rolls-Royce. The opportunity to participate in some teaching activities is available for those wishing to pursue an academic career.

Candidate must possess an excellent knowledge of mechanical and mechatronics system design and practical design and control skills. In addition, candidates should have excellent analytical skills to evaluate mechatronic systems and develop control architectures, with a track record in developing mechatronic designs. Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python/C++) and experience on programming in Matlab/Labview would be preferable.

Apart from being able to lead the research work on this project, excellent communication, presentation/reporting and publishing skills are required for the person appointed to effectively interact with the international academic and industrial partners involved in this demanding research project. In addition to carrying out project work, the researcher will benefit from exposure to internationally leading industrial companies that are interested in the results of this project and willing to collaborate on spin-out individual projects.

It is essential that candidates posses an undergraduate degree (BEng / BSc) in mechatronic / control/ manufacturing engineering or in a closely related discipline, along with a relevant PhD (or near completion), ideally in mechatronic control or related field of mechatronics engineering. It is desirable that the candidates possess a Master's in mechatronic control or manufacturing engineering or closely related disciplines.

This full-time (36.25 hours per week) post is available from 1 June 2021, however a late start date could be agreed, and will offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years. Job share arrangements may be considered.

It is a condition of this role that you undertake the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) screening.
