Postdoctoral Researcher Or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher (Experimental Nuclear Physics)
Job Description:
The nuclear physics group at Louisiana State University is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of experimental nuclear physics. Our group's research interests span the areas of nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and weak interaction processes. Specifically, this position will focus on projects to experimentally determine reaction rates of astrophysical importance in a variety of stellar processes. A successful candidate will be expected to be involved in all aspects of these studies from developing instrumentation to the planning, execution and analysis of experiments using stable and/or radioactive ion beams. Our experimental program is centered around measurements at Argonne National Laboratory, Florida State University, TRIUMF Laboratory and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory with the possibility of successful candidates being in residence at one of these facilities.
Minimum qualifications: (Both) Ph.D. Nuclear physics or a related field. (Senior level) 3 years of related experience.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in the laboratory is essential and candidates who have demonstrated practical knowledge in the development and construction of detectors and other equipment are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with C++, ROOT, and/or GEANT is also desirable.
Responsibilities: Conduct research and development to experimentally determine reaction rates of astrophysical importance in a variety of stellar processes. This includes developing instrumentation and execution and analysis of experiments using stable and/or radioactive ion beams. Prepare articles and reports and present results at scientific meetings. Help mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects. (Senior level) Will lead aspects of the research and development and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
