The Jin Lab, led by Younggeon Jin, DVM, PhD, in the department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, is recruiting a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral research associate. We are a gastrointestinal pathophysiology lab that is focused on the role of the apical junctional complex, which include tight and adherens junctions in the intestinal epithelial cells during normal physiology and pathogenesis in animals and human.
Our research program has a particular interest in studying the mechanism whereby the adherens junction E-cadherin regulates epithelial stem cell homeostasis and regeneration in gastrointestinal disorders using intestinal organoids and mouse models. We have a strong translational focus that is founded in a preclinical mechanistic understanding of basic biological processes with the ultimate goal of shaping these discoveries into therapeutic strategies for inflammatory bowel diseases and necrotizing enterocolitis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking a candidate who will contribute to studying the role of adherens junction proteins in the regulation of intestinal stem cell homeostasis and regeneration from colitis. Interested applicants should hold a PhD, or equivalent degrees (e.g. MD, DVM, etc.), earned no earlier than 2018. Considerable laboratory experience and a strong background in physiology, molecular biology, and animal models are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected. Only individuals who are currently legally able to work in the US will be considered for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Prior experience with Cre-loxP induced mouse model, colitis model, intestinal organoid culture, and, IF/IHC is highly desired, but not a requirement. The candidate should be self-motivated and have a proven track record of productivity.
COMPENSATION:
Competitive Salary and benefits package will be offered to the successful candidates. Salary for the positions is commensurate with experience and number of years since completing the higher level of education. Fringe benefits are offered. The posting will remain open until filled.
