We are looking for a highly motivated individual for a 3-year fixed-term Research Associate position on the Leverhulme Trust funded project “a mathematical approach to taming optical turbulence” in the area of optical turbulence. The research associate will support the project by enhancing our theoretical understanding of the transition to turbulence in optical systems such as optical fibres and fibre lasers using methods related to hydrodynamical stability and turbulence.

Successful applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics, Physics, or a related area; a good track record of publications in international journals; excellent written and oral communication skills; experience in areas of fluid dynamics and/or nonlinear optics; and be comfortable with scientific computing.

The research associate will be part of the Mathematics Department in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University. The appointment will support our existing strengths within the department in statistical pattern processing, machine learning, statistical physics, and dynamical modelling of complex systems.
