Description

Professor Carol Genetti in the Division of Arts and Humanities, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to conduct research related to the documentation and analysis of Tibeto-Burman languages. The successful candidate will create and archive digital language corpora, use mixed methods to analyze language in connected speech, and publish articles written from the perspective of linguistic typology. In addition, the candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to design and create online training materials related to language documentation and revitalization for speakers of endangered languages.

The successful applicant must have a PhD in Linguistics with a specialization in Tibeto-Burman languages and experience in producing and archiving a multimedia documentary corpus of an endangered language. Completion of one or more training institutes preferred (e.g., ELDP grantee training, CoLang). Proficiency in PRAAT, ELAN, FLEx, and R required, as well as expertise in audio and video recording, and digital data management. Applicants should have a record of successful grant writing and article publication. Experience with the design, creation, and delivery of training activities for speakers of endangered languages is preferred. Proficiency in one or more regional languages of the Tibeto-Burman area required.
