Department of Zoology, 11a Mansfield Road, Oxford Grade 7: £32,817 to £40,322 p.a.

The Oxford University Bee Laboratory in the Department of Zoology is offering an 8 month postdoctoral position (with the possibility of extension for an additional 1-2 years) to study bee feeding behaviour. The overall goal of the project is to characterize the way that bees feed on nectar containing potential toxins. This appointment will work closely with a team of researchers to design and execute behavioural experiments designed to understand how bees perceive compounds found in nectar. The successful candidate will have responsibility for collecting, analysing, and writing up data and some supervisory responsibilities for student projects. This post is part of an active and interdisciplinary research group – the lab of Professor Geraldine Wright – who works on the physiology and behaviour of bee species.

This post is ideally suited to applicants with a PhD/DPhil in Biology with an emphasis in neuroethology and/or behaviour where the candidate has experience working with insects to study their behaviour. The ideal candidate will have experience observing from insect chemosensory behaviour with skills in using specialist software (e.g. Noldus Observer) and/or high speed cameras and tracking software. Candidates with strong scientific writing skills (in English) will be preferred.
