Postdoctoral Research Associate in Physical Chemistry

Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Physical Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Susan Perkin on a new ERC-funded project, ELECTROLYTE, starting October 2021. This is a fixed term position for up to 36 months.

This role involves experimental measurements using a surface force balance (SFB) and other physical and chemical techniques, lab management, maintenance of apparatus, supervision of students, drafting manuscripts and taking a leadership role for some research themes within the project. Applicants should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Physics, Chemistry or a related subject prior to taking up your appointment and will be able to demonstrate competence and success in the thesis research area. The research requires experience in a relevant field, such as: measurement of surface forces; measurements involving physical properties of electrolytes; measurements involving liquids at interfaces or in confinement; or liquid state physics. The successful applicant will also be able to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team in a laboratory environment, and to take responsibility for managing their own day-to-day research activities.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford.
