Postdoctoral Training Fellow
This is a full-time, fixed term (three years) position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.
The research group
Our group is a diverse team of scientists interested in the area of host and pathogen interactions in tuberculosis with a focus on the cell biology innate immune system and phagocytosis. To study human disease, we are developing bioengineered stem cell based cellular systems to better understand lung infection and treatment. We aim to combine iPSC technologies with organ-on-chip technologies to engineer physiologically inspired human lung-on-chips.
Project summary
In this project, we will develop cellular systems that combines CRISPR/Cas9 engineered human stem cells and three-dimensional micro-fabricated physiological environments for single cell analysis. We will use these cellular systems together with technologies developed in our group to image and quantify Mtb localisation and replication, such as live cell imaging and correlative live cell 3D- electron microscopy (CLEM). Moreover, we aim to refine these approaches to challenge the current limits of cell-based, high content imaging. The research aims to develop a new generation of iPSC-based technologies to understand human disease- and will contribute to the research funded by Wellcome leap.
Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and guide PhD students in their research. The ability to work in a team is essential.
Key experience and competencies
The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values: bold, imaginative, open, dynamic and collegial, in addition to the following:
Essential
• PhD in stem cell biology (iPSC) or in the final stages of PhD submission
• Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications or submitted manuscripts in referred journals
• Evidence of data presentation at scientific meetings
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in communicating quantitative concepts to biologists
• Ability to work independently and also capable of interacting within a group
• Demonstrate continuous integrity and positivity and motivate others to do the same.
Desirable
• Experience with relevant software tools such as R, Python, or MATLAB as well as relevant machine learning frameworks
• Experience in statistical data analysis, and expertise in areas such as experimental design, linear/nonlinear models, data mining, Bayesian methods, and statistical learning
• Multi modal imaging and mammalian cell biology.
• Hands-on experience in imaging and multicolour flow cytometry.
• Strong understanding of tissue bioengineering technologies.
