Roles & Responsibilities:
An Associate Researcher (technician) position in the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Hopkins, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York is now available (Spring 2021). The Hopkins laboratory runs a functional genomics pipeline, that investigates how comprehensive genomics, and patient derived models of cancer can be used to both guide clinical decision making and identify treatment options for patients in need. Our group is very dynamic, collaborative and comprised of researchers with diverse backgrounds and expertise. We are looking for a driven, motivated, well-organized and skilled individual to assist in translational research aimed at discovering biochemical and molecular mechanisms determining tumor response to cancer therapies. These studies involve cell-based and patient derived modeling methods. Specific duties are listed but not limited to:
Being the point person for the functional genomics automated system. This includes execution of routine and non/routine screens using an automated system for functional modeling. Prior scripting and experience with R is a MUST.
Biochemical and cellular assays using standard techniques (e.g. western blotting, cell growth assays, immunoprecipitation, FACS analysis etc), and cell/tissue processing, 2D and 3D culture and maintenance
Detailed documentation of experimental work, and maintenance, cataloging and back-up of experimental data files
Collect detailed documentation on experimental data
Attend weekly meetings to present, discuss and evaluate current projects and literature
Preparation of purchase orders for supplies
Cataloging and backup of inventories, laboratory stocks and reagents
Contribute to quality control, assurance and lab safety programs
Requirements:
BS or MS in biology/biochemistry or related fields (e.g. cancer biology or molecular/cell biology); or equivalent combination of education and experience
Prior research experience in a molecular or cellular biology laboratory
Knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology methods (western blotting, cell growth assays)
Scripting, programing in R is a MUST
Excellent organization, communication, time-management, and record-keeping skills
Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. GraphPad PRISM)
Long-term (>2-year) commitment preferred
