Summary

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Global and Immigrant Health Section – Global Tuberculosis (TB) Program at Baylor College of Medicine.

We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to join a vibrant team of global TB researchers engaged in translation, clinical, and operational research – mostly comprised of work in sub-Saharan Africa. Current research projects focus on TB diagnostics, TB preventative therapies, TB and TB/HIV epidemiology, differentiated service delivery mechanisms to enhance TB and HIV care and treatment, and identification of strategies that will optimize support TB and TB/HIV service and delivery.

This position will also afford the opportunity to provide insight and strategize on best practices for study recruitment and tracking, drive new analysis that aligns with the Global TB Program aims and objectives capitalizing on a large clinical research data base, as well as collaborate with other team members and colleagues to develop robust research questions and bring parallel analysis to abstract, presentation and manuscript phases. You will receive support from the Global TB Program Director, Associate Director, Translational Research Director, and Program Manager. In addition, as travel resumes, this position will routinely travel to regional project sites and international conferences up to 45% of the time to ensure job responsibilities and requirements are met.

Strong skills in epidemiology, data science, public health, and health science are expected. Experience working in international settings with research colleagues throughout sub-Saharan Africa is favorable. The postdoc will be highly collaborative, able to work independently, and creative and approach their scholarship with a growth mindset. Strong writing and presentation skills and the ability to work well in a team are additional important qualities in a successful applicant.

Will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of researchers based in over a dozen countries on four continents. Cross-cultural sensitivity and refined communication skills are a must.

Global Immigrant Health TB Program

Job Duties

•Collaborate with Global TB Director, Associate Director, and Translational Research Director to define new research aims, objectives and initiatives that support the program mission

•Coordinate and implement research aims and initiatives with collaborative cohorts

•Plan, direct and conduct specialized and advanced research experiments in the fields of TB and TB/HIV

•Provide strong partnership in epidemiological and clinical research with the ability to participate in ongoing epigenetic and immunology research

•Develop new protocols and procedures and/or contribute to current research protocols and procedures in conjunction with existing projects

•Evaluate and analyze data in order to comprehensively interpret research data

•Summarize research findings and analysis and communicate these findings with the scientific community via published manuscripts and conference presentations

•Participate in research proposal development

•Establish and host meetings to execute and deliver predefined objectives

•Share responsibilities amongst other team members and external research partners

•Consult and collaborate with GTB team administrators to guarantee deliverables are aligned with BCM policies and regulations

Minimum Qualifications

•Ph.D. in epidemiology, data science, public health, health science, or a related field.

•No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Demonstrated excellence in research in epidemiology, data science, public health or health science

•    Excellent analytical, organization and problem-solving skills

•    Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

•    Experience with R and/or similar statistical modeling software

•    Must be able to work independently and in a team environment with collaborators, stakeholders, and research staff
