Job Description:
The Richards Lab at Louisiana State University is recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to dissect qualitative/quantitative host resistance and pathogen virulence in the rice – Cercospora janseana pathosystem. The postdoctoral research associate will be expected to lead the high resolution mapping and cloning of a major narrow brown leaf spot resistance gene, as well as the phenotyping of host populations to characterize quantitative resistance. Additionally, the postdoctoral research associate will have the opportunity to investigate the molecular mechanisms of pathogen virulence using genomic and molecular techniques. Responsibilities also include designing and conducting laboratory and greenhouse experiments, data analysis, writing manuscripts, presenting results at meetings and conferences, and mentoring students.
Qualification Requirements: PhD in plant pathology, genetics, microbiology, biology, or other related field. A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the design and execution of genetic, genomic, and/or molecular biology experiments. Preferred qualifications include bioinformatics and experience working with fungal plant pathogens. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues within and among departments are required. A valid Louisiana State driver's license and ability to drive is required at the time of appointment or soon thereafter.
