Job description

For the unit cancer epidemiology, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher for a project on lifestyle habits in relation to bladder cancer outcomes, financed by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF Kankerbestrijding).

Patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer have a relatively good survival but are at high risk of tumour recurrence and disease progression. Many patients ask their urologist whether making lifestyle changes can improve their outcome. To date, the effect of lifestyle habits on recurrence and progression has not been sufficiently studied to answer this question.

In this project, we will investigate how dietary and lifestyle habits are associated with the risk of recurrence and progression in patients with non- muscle-invasive bladder cancer. We will also examine whether these associations are mediated and/or modified by tumour stage and molecular subtype. This project will be conducted within the framework of our ongoing multicentre cohort study UroLife, currently including about 1500 patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Dietary and lifestyle habits are assessed by questionnaire at several time points after diagnosis and clinical and follow-up data are derived from medical records. Tumour blocks are collected to assess molecular subtypes.
