英国厄尔汉姆研究所生物信息学博士后科学家职位

Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Bioinformatics)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Conrad Nieduszynski in the Organisms and Ecosystems Programme at the Earlham Institute, based in Norwich, UK

Background:

Errors during DNA replication are the major source of genetic variation during evolution and disease progression. We have developed novel single-molecule (Müller et al., 2019) and population-level (Batrakou et al., 2020) genomic datasets that reveal the dynamics of genome replication. In this project, we aim to integrate single-molecule and population-level genomic data to train a comprehensive mathematical model for genome replication (Boemo et al., 2020). We will use this model to predict potential sources of genome instability that we can then validate experimentally.

The role:

This post requires a computationally and mathematically skilled individual with an interest in using their expertise to study fundamental biological processes and the causes of genetic variation. The jobholder will be involved in analysing sequencing data, developing novel bioinformatics pipelines, contributing to software development and mathematically modelling genomics data.

The ideal candidate:

We seek to appoint a well-trained, enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist possessing experience in algorithm development and the ability to research, adapt and improve upon state-of-the-art techniques for processing signals from noisy data. The post holder should hold a PhD/DPhil in engineering, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or computer science or equivalent. Previous experience developing or directly implementing the mathematics from research papers is essential.

Furthermore, good organisational skills and the ability to communicate and work productively within a multidisciplinary team will be crucial. An interest in biological systems will be essential, but prior experience or knowledge of DNA replication or genome stability is not a requirement. Candidates with experience of high-throughput DNA sequence analysis, machine learning and/or GPU programming would be especially welcome.

Training will be available in all aspects of the work, although it is expected that applicants will have a strong background in the majority of the mathematical and computational techniques.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,255 to £39,345 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a period of 3 years in the first instance.
