Innovation Fellow in Chemical Science (catalyst synthesis)

The Department of Chemistry at Lancaster University is seeking an outstanding and motivated candidate for the post of Innovation Fellow to support R&D activities in the focus area of catalysis to work on the £4.9M Next Generation Chemistry Project. The NextGenChem is a co-designed programme between Lancaster University and Yordas Group and partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The programme offers innovation support to over 300 SMEs in the Lancashire area relevant to chemicals production and usage industries.

The position requires actively engaging with SMEs in the Lancashire area to analyse industry R&D challenges, find solutions, and to develop Next Generation catalytic materials and processes. The Innovation Fellow is expected to work across a range of industrial sectors, such as Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical Manufacturing and Formulators, Energy, Health Care & Life Sciences.

You should have a PhD degree in chemistry, working on catalyst synthesis, catalytical processes and relevant characterisation techniques. The successful candidate will work across several laboratories and with Academics at Lancaster University. We would anticipate the successful candidate has previous experience of working on an industry project. The successful candidate will show a strong interest in collaborating SMEs and expected to demonstrate their knowledge of industry-relevant research; candidates without industry experience are still encouraged to apply.

You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is for 24 months, with a possible extension to 27 months, subject to funding body approval.
