Postdoc in Circadian Neuroendocrinology (fixed-term and part-time)

Job Description

Department of Neuroscience

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2-year postdoc position in Circadian Neuroendocrinology to commence 1 January 2021 or soon thereafter.

Information on the department and research group can be found at https: // in.ku.dk/research/rath-lab/

Our research is focused on the circadian system of the mammalian brain. We have a special interest in the interplay between circadian 24-hour rhythms in hormone production, which conveys circadian information from the endogenous circadian clock of the hypothalamus, and extra-hypothalamic brain clocks of the cerebral cortex and the cerebellum. In a combined effort, involving neuroanatomical, molecular biological surgical in vivo techniques, we determine the roles of circadian hormones and circadian brain clocks in health and disease.

The research group You will be part of a young and energetic research group, including postdocs, PhD-students and technical support. Daily contacts between PI and junior scientists and weekly lab meetings ensure frequent guidance. We recently moved into newly established laboratories designed to meet the exact requirements for our research.

Your job Your main task will be to perform stereotaxic surgeries in the brains of adult rats and use programmable micropumps to control rhythmic release of exogenous hormones. In addition, you will perform behavioural analyses, as well as histological and molecular biological analyses of the rodent brain to monitor circadian clock gene expression. The position is funded by an Ascending Investigator grant from The Lundbeck Foundation.

Profile We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

You have a PhD in neuroscience, neuroendocrinology or a related field

You are highly experienced in rodent surgical techniques

You are highly experienced in molecular biological and histological techniques

You have excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

You have an active interest in circadian neurobiology and neuroanatomy

You have an excellent track-record of publications in international scientific journals

You have proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams

Place of employment The place of employment is at Department of Neuroscience, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and equipment.

Terms of employment The employment as postdoc is a fixed-term position, 30 hours per week for two years. Starting date is 1 January 2021.
