　　A position is available for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to explore fundamental questions regarding the role of epigenetic mechanisms in brain development and energy balance. As part of an R01-funded project in collaboration with neuroanatomist Richard Simerly we are working to develop an integrated understanding of how epigenetic and neuroanatomic development work together in the establishment of energy balance mechanisms in the hypothalamus. Toward this goal, our lab is developing novel approaches to probe cell-type specific epigenetic changes during hypothalamic development, combining techniques including fluorescence-activated nuclear sorting, whole-genome bisulfite sequencing, and transcriptional profiling (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq). Individuals with relevant backgrounds, including in neuroscience, epigenomics, genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, computer science, and nutrition are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work independently and take a leading role, under the guidance and supervision of the PI. The position is based in the Texas Medical Center. The world’s largest medical center and a vibrant and collaborative research environment, the TMC is located in Houston, TX, celebrated as the most diverse city in the US and for its low cost of living. Candidates must be recent recipients of a Ph.D. with good publications in a relevant discipline.
