The Translational Epigenetics Group (Institute of Pathology, University Medical Center Goettingen) is looking for a

  Postdoc and/or a PhD Student (f/m)

initially limited to 36 months, full time (for the postdoc) or part-time 65 % (for the PhD student) | salary according to TV-L

The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Its 7,700 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, “City of Science”, located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city's attractive network of scientific research facilities.

  The project:

We recently discovered a striking link between genome folding and senescence onset that involves proteins of the HMGB family and the spatial clustering of CTCF loops. This phenomenon has far-reaching implications for both establishment of senescent cells in vivo, and for tumorigenesis. In this project we aim at dissecting the roles of HMGB1/B2 in these diverging cascades by using a combination of genomics and biochemical approaches. We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral- and/or PhDlevel researcher with a strong background in either genomics or biochemical/molecular biology approaches with an emphasis on chromatin and the cell cycle. Funds for up to 4 years are available.

Other keywords related to the topic:

Chromatin loops, topological domains, compartments, senescence, CTCF, bioinformatics, genome editing

  Methods:

  CRISPR/Cas9 editing, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, computational analyses, FACS, protein purification, scRNA-seq

Our latest publications on the topic:

Zirkel et al., (2018) HMGB2 loss upon senescence entry disrupts genomic organization and induces CTCF clustering across cell types. Mol Cell. 70(4):730-744.

  We offer:

A collaborative and motivating research environment, mentoring for personal development, interdisciplinary training in molecular biology, genomics, and computational analysis, and affiliation with a prestigious graduate program. Commencement of the work is by arrangement, but should ideally be before 2019.

Please send your application incl. full CV, a motivation letter, and two reference letters only via e-mail as a PDF-file.

Women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.

We look forward to receiving your application by October 31st, 2018:
