英国皮尔布赖特研究所生物科学方向博士后职位招聘
Postdoctoral Scientist :Pirbright, United Kingdom
The Pirbright Institute
The Pirbright Institute delivers world-leading research to understand, predict, detect and respond to viral disease outbreaks. We study viruses of livestock that are endemic and exotic to the UK, including zoonotic viruses, by using the most advanced tools and technologies to understand host-pathogen interactions in animals and arthropod vectors. Our major strength in understanding the immune systems of livestock provides a platform to control current diseases and respond to emerging threats.
Our Institute is made up of a dynamic and vibrant community of staff covering a diverse set of chosen fields, backgrounds and experience. We all play a crucial role in furthering the Institute's aspirations, advancing the frontiers of science and knowledge through our excellent scientific research, knowledge sharing and contribution; with a real focus in improving the world in which we live. Our outlook is always balanced by our strong sense of purpose, values and behaviours and an unwavering commitment to a `one Institute' approach.
Organisation position and purpose:
The postdoctoral scientist will be a pivotal member of the DEFEND research consortium that is based at The Pirbright Institute. They will be responsible for delivering the scientific objectives of two work packages focused on the immune response of cattle to the poxvirus Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV).
Lumpy skin disease is a high consequence transboundary disease of cattle caused by infection with LSDV. LSDV entered Europe for the first time in 2015, resulting in the deaths of thousands of cattle. In order to defend the cattle industry of Europe against this disease the postdoctoral scientist will study the immune response of cattle to LSDV infection, and work with industry partners to apply their findings to develop better diagnostic tests and vaccines against LSD. The post would suit a scientist with an interest and expertise in immunology, particularly ruminant immunology.
The DEFEND research consortium is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme. The consortium involves 31 partners from 21 countries, and includes academic institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and government bodies. The overall aim of the consortium is to control both the growing lumpy skin disease and African swine fever epidemics in Europe and neighbouring countries. The postdoctoral scientist will report to the consortium lead and interact with the other members of the team involved in the project.
