摘要:

Postdoc in Remote Sensing of Fugitive Gas Emissions

Technical University of Denmark

The section Air, Land and Water Resources is dedicated to study the interaction between the atmosphere, the natural environment and the anthroposphere. The focus is on direct and indirect effects on functioning and stability of terrestrial ecosystems, on biosphere-atmosphere exchange of greenhouse gases and reactive gases and particles, and on the effects of toxic components of the atmosphere on plant growth and human health. The research includes important feedbacks between the terrestrial biosphere and the global climate.

Responsibilities and tasks
A key output of the position is publication of research findings in ISI journals. The candidate is expected to publish results both as lead author, and as co-author in cooperation with other researchers and PhD students. It is also expected that the Postdoc delivers broader dissemination such as conference contributions.

The Postdoc will participate in several on-going and planned projects, which include:

  • EU project to harmonise methods to measure methane emissions from biogas production facilities.
  • Development of high spatial resolution satellite methodology to quantify fugitive emissions at source level.
  • Quantify fugitive emissions from composting of garden waste.
  • Measuring effectiveness of landfill gas mitigation initiatives (e.g. Biocover)

Other task and responsibilities are:

  • Teaching activities: Teaching in the course “Climate change – impacts, mitigation and adaptation”, Supervision of Ph.D. students.
  • Field measurements in Denmark and internationally.
  • Responsible for operation, reinvestment and future investment in equipment for a variety of measurement methods – including a “mobile analytical platform”, which is a vehicle fitted with various high precision analytical equipment. This mobile laboratory is used for remote sensing of fugitive emissions from landfills, wastewater treatment plants, biogas plants and more.
  • Fund raising for further research in collaboration with senior colleagues.

You will engage in the development of the newly formed research section “Air, Land & Water Resources”, whose members have well established publication records within fields closely related to your focus area. Interest and capability to collaborate with other researchers, industry, consultants, authorities etc. is important, and strong communication skills are equally important.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The position requires interest in using a variety of problem solving tools to achieve your overall aims. Fieldwork is a key part of the position, whereby you will face problems requiring a “hands-on” approach. The following personal competencies are relevant for the position:

  • You enjoy working with complex topics.
  • You thrive on collaboration and teamwork both with colleagues and external partners.
  • You believe in dialogue and feedback as the best foundation for sound decision-making.

Further qualifications:

  • Interest in quantification of fugitive emissions from different sources such as landfills, energy facilities, wastewater treatment plants and similar.
  • Interest in development and validation of measurement methods.
  • Experience with advanced scientific data analysis and modelling.
  • Experience with emission measurements and field investigations.
  • Interest in public sector consultancy and project management of publicly funded projects.
  • Interest in participation and collaboration in multiple projects/other activities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of general aspects of climate change and sources of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental assessment methodologies.
