Purpose and Main Duties

The Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB) at Birkbeck College/University College London is seeking a highly-motivated and creative Post-Doctoral Researcher to carry out computational research in the fields of mass spectrometry-based proteomics and protein interaction networks. The position is a part of a collaborative project funded by the Wellcome Trust to analyse complexes associated with Human Cytomegalovirus assembly, using data from mass spectrometry-based and other proteomic techniques.

Candidate Requirements

The Post-Doctoral Researcher should have a strong track record in developing computational methods in network analysis, proteomics or similar fields. Knowledge in protein-protein interactions, database development and raw mass spectrometry data analysis will be an advantage.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will benefit from the vibrant scientific environment of the ISMB. She/he will also participate in international scientific conferences and workshops to present the developed techniques and software.

Further Information

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £37,169 rising to £42,483 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week and fixed term for up to 2.5 years with potential extension for 5 years (which may take place at another institution).

The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 12 months. Birkbeck also provides a generous defined benefit pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and other great benefits.
