Postdoc, Ph.D. and Technician Positions to Study Nuclear mRNA Packaging as part of an ERC-Funded Project at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany

We are looking for highly motivated Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellows and a technician to work on the ERC-funded project “Nuclear mRNA Packaging and mRNP Architecture” beginning June 2018 or later. Already during transcription by RNA polymerase II the synthesized mRNA is bound by nuclear RNA-binding proteins and packaged into a messenger ribonucleoprotein particle (mRNP). This process is of prime importance for correct gene expression as it is necessary for stability and nuclear export of the mRNA and even determines cytoplasmic steps such as translation and mRNA degradation. However, the mechanism of mRNA packaging and the structure of an mRNP are not known, and, thus, will be elucidated in this project.

We use a wide range of biochemical, molecular and cell biological, genetic and computational techniques and offer an international, highly motivating and interactive environment, state of the art facilities and optimal support to develop strong research skills and an academic profile. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale.

Applicants should possess a strong research background in biochemistry and molecular biology and an appropriate degree: an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) for the Ph.D. positions (applications number 383/00529/08) and a Ph.D. degree for the postdoc position (applications number 384/00530/08). Specific knowledge in RNA biology and/or structural biology is of advantage.

To apply, please send an application letter, motivation letter, CV, transcripts of records, and contact information of at least two referees as a single PDF file stating the above mentioned applications number to Prof. Dr. Katja Sträßer (katja.straesser@chemie.bio.uni-giessen.de) until the May 28th, 2018.
