  Job Description
 
  Project Overview
 
  Improving the resilience of the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit network (SMRTN) requires both proactive robustification of the network and reactive emergency response planning in cases of disruptions. In light of the SMRTN expansion, the remodeled hub-and-spoke bus network, and new bridging services such as ride-sharing services and automated driving vehicles, building an integrated resilience improvement plan for the SMRTN has become more complex and requires a systematic and tractable methodology.
 
  Responsibilities
 
  We have an open position for a Postdoctoral Associate at Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre (SMART) in Singapore. The responsibility of Postdoctoral Associate will be to work on developing strategies obtained from a novel data-driven optimization approach that lays the foundations for cross-disciplinary work among three fully-fledged fields of research, namely, data analytics, statistics, machine learning and optimization.
 
  • Analyze big passenger movement datasets for the SMRTN
 
  • Use the big data analysis results to quantify uncertainties in the SMRTN
 
  • Build and solve data-driven robust optimization models to improve the resilience of the SMRTN
 
  • Present research results at top international workshops and conferences, exhibits as well as internal project meetings
 
  • Co-author articles for publication in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and top conferences
 
  Requirements
 
  The successful candidates must have:
 
  • PhD in Computer Science, Complex Systems, Operations Research or a related field.
 
  • Strong background in big Data Analytics, Data-Driven optimization Statistics, Machine Learning and Mathematical Optimization with a focus on transportation systems.
 
  • Practical skills in solving optimization models with Python or Matlab or CPLEX are expected
 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English as evidenced by ability to develop manuscripts and deliver presentations.
 
  Candidates with an experience in any of the following will have an advantage:
 
  • Demonstrated record of independent thinking and innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published in premier journals is a strong plus
 
  • With an interdisciplinary mathematical modeling background.
 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, problem solving skills and high creativity.
