Postdoctoral Research Associate in Theoretical and Computational Biophysics
We are recruiting for the position of a postdoctoral research associate on a project funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), to be carried out in the group of Dr. Shiladitya Banerjee at the Department of Physics & Astronomy at University College London (UCL), London, UK.
The aim of the project is to determine the mechanisms by which bacterial cells grow, adapt to their environment, and develop resistance to antibacterial drugs. To this end, the postdoc will develop predictive quantitative models of cell growth and division using theoretical methods rooted in statistical physics, soft matter physics, systems biology and data-driven modelling.
This position is funded for two years in the first instance.
The successful applicant will have a PhD (or be about to receive one) in Physics, Biophysics, Applied Mathematics, or a related area in theoretical/applied sciences.
Candidates should have the ability for creative and original research of the highest impact, as demonstrated by a strong scientific publication track record in highly regarded international peer-reviewed journals.
Knowledge of statistical physics, soft matter physics, and computational modelling is essential. Prior research experience on quantitative modelling of biological systems is desirable.
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 – £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316-£31,967 per annum, inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
