Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology at Texas A&M University, College of Medicine to the join the research groups of Drs. Jim Samuel, Kristin Patrick, and Robert Watson.   

The first position is a unique opportunity to leverage the Patrick/Watson lab’s multidisciplinary approach integrating cell biology, bacterial genetics, immunology, biochemistry, and systems biology, to elucidate how intracellular bacterial pathogens modulate cellular innate immune mechanisms in order to establish a niche.   See more information about our lab at http://thewatsonlab.com   The Watson lab is looking for someone to study how M. tuberculosis interfaces with the autophagy pathway to influence infection outcome with a particular focus on identifying bacterial factors that influence these interactions.

The second position is a JOINT postdoctoral position in the Samuel and Patrick/Watson labs. This individual will be given the opportunity to utilize the expertise of two labs with diverse skill sets/approaches in the field of microbial pathogenesis.  We are looking for someone to study how Coxiella interfaces with host macrophages with a particular focus on the innate immune system.

Responsibilities for both positions include: primary data analysis and initial preparation of manuscripts and presentations, assisting other members of the research team as needed, and help with new grant submissions. Lab members are required to attend laboratory meetings, departmental seminars and journal club.

Applicants for both positions must have a Ph.D. Degree and experience working in a molecular biology, microbiology, and/or immunology lab. Those applicants with expertise in bacterial genetics and/or using knockout mice to study disease models will receive additional consideration. Applicants should also have outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a passionate enthusiasm for host-pathogen interaction research.
