The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, is searching for an outstanding postdoctoral fellow to conduct molecular biological research in the lab of Dr. Ken Fujise, Professor and Division Director.
This position will be in the area of phenotypic and mechanistic characterization of genetically manipulated mice generated by the lab. The lab focuses on fortilin, a novel anti-apoptotic molecule. Fortilin binds p53 and blocks the transcriptional activation of BAX and PUMA. Fortilin also binds MCL1, a BCL2 family protein, and protects it against proteasome-mediated degradation. Fortilin contributes to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and other human diseases.

The lab is currently funded by NIH (NHLBI) and provides the successful candidate with a stable, positive, and collaborative research environment. There are currently 4 full-time scientists in the lab working together as a team. The successful candidate should be interest in fortilin, have completed graduate education with PhD in or after 2014, and be US citizen, Permanent Resident or eligible for J-1 visa (our institution does not sponsor H1B for postdoctoral positions). Strong expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology is required. Experience in the characterization of genetically altered mice is preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude are crucial. The Principal Investigator is passionate about fortilin and mentoring and coaching of his scientists.
