Classification: Academic Level A / B

Salary package: Academic Level A - AUD$68,307 - AUD$86,646 per annum plus 17% Superannuation Academic Level B – AUD $94,287 -AUD$107,381 per annum plus 17% Superannuation

Position Overview:

The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, and the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science conduct research and delivers a research-led education program that encompasses the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities. The College has a strong tradition of research excellence that has fostered distinguished Nobel Laureates and Kyoto Prize winners and that trains scientific leaders in disciplines in which the ANU is consistently ranked in the top twenty in the world.

The ANU Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational-wave Discovery (OzGrav) conducts research on high precision laser interferometry for gravitational wave detection and other applications. We are seeking to appoint an experimental physicist to work on quantum noise reduction and/or low noise opto-mechanical measurement. OzGrav-ANU resides within the Department of Quantum Science at the Research School of Physics and Engineering, a dynamic group researching applications of quantum technologies in a range of different areas. It co-hosts three ARC Centres of Excellence, an innovations hub that supports start-up companies, and several other major projects.

If you hold a PhD or equivalent in physics or a related discipline and a background in areas such as optical physics, electro-optics, quantum optics, control systems and low noise electronics, we would welcome an application from you.
