Job Description
This is a 1-5 year, Department of Defense supported post-doctoral research appointment in the laboratories of Dr. Stephen Shiao and Dr. David Underhill within the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Biomedical Sciences Division of Immunology Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Our laboratories are part of a vibrant and growing research program which provides excellent career development opportunities in cancer biology, immunology and gastrointestinal research. We employ a variety of techniques including next generation sequencing, multicolor flow cytometry, quantitative immunohistochemistry, super resolution and multiphoton microscopy to study intestinal and systemic inflammatory responses.
The selected candidate will focus on the study of the role of the microbiome in regulating immune responses in different disease models including anti-tumor immunity and immunotherapy related toxicity to the GI tract. Research will involve working with animals, primarily mice. Responsibilities include designing/conducting experiments, collecting/analyzing data, preparing data for publication and grant submission, as well as presenting at local/national meetings and applying for fellowships/grants. May be required to teach research staff members, students, residents and fellows.
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist with a track record of successful research who can independently design and execute experiments. Requires a M.D. and/or Ph.D. in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, physiology, cancer biology or a related field. Experience in molecular biology and cell culture techniques is essential, as well as willingness to work with murine models. The ideal candidate will have also have experience in immunology, cancer biology, innate immunity, microbiome and/or radiation biology. Familiarity with animal handling, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, advanced sequencing techniques and bioinformatics are desired. Must possess strong organizational and written/verbal English communication skills.
