PostDoc Position

(Salary group 13 TV-L, 39.8 h/week)

in the research area of advanced transmission electron characterization of interfaces (CRC 1073 project Z02). The position will start at the earliest by August 1st 2017 and is limited to four years.

Your tasks and duties:

You will drive research in fundamental mechanisms of energy conversion in complex materials down to the atomic scale. You will work in a team of highly motivated researchers from different scientific disciplines and contribute to the development of an improved microscopic understanding of elementary steps of energy conversion in materials with tunable excitations and interactions. You will participate in the development of new control tactics on energy conversion via contributing an understanding of the structure and electronic properties of interfaces in materials systems relevant for the CRC 1073 research. For further detailed information, please refer to our website:

Job profile:

In order to provide a detailed characterization of the atomic and electronic structure of interfaces of the CRC-related materials, high-resolution TEM, STEM, EELS, CBED and differential phase contrast microscopy (DPCM) will be used in the Z02 project. We are looking for an excellent candidate, having a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or materials science. The ideal candidate must demonstrate experience in operating of an aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (TEM) and using analytical and high resolution TEM techniques. Skills in preparation of TEM specimens using both conventional specimen preparation and the use of FIB lift-out methods are necessary. The ability to write scripts for Digital Micrograph is highly desirable. The candidate must have a proven track record of achievements (talks, publications in the field of TEM).

You dispose of a very good knowledge in English both in writing and speaking. Good German language skills are desirable. You enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from other disciplines. You are enthusiastic about the subject and you are interested in the development of a fundamental understanding of structure-property relations of interfaces relevant for energy conversion processes.

The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are underrepresented. The university has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family life.
