JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an independent and motivated researcher for a Postdoctoral position in the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Research Center in the Division of Thoracic Surgery (Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery) at Weill Cornell Medical College (New York, NY).

In the laboratory of Brendon Stiles, MD, the successful candidate will join a collaborative translational research team that seeks to explore a novel therapeutic target for the prevention of metastasis from lung cancer. In particular we are evaluating the target’s role in the regulation of the immune microenvironment. The lab also seeks to identify and validate blood-based biomarkers specific to lung cancer. We utilize patient materials and murine models of lung cancer. Dr. Stiles, a clinician, collaborates with and works closely with basic scientists, in particularly Dr. Timothy McGraw, Professor of Biochemistry and Dr. Vivek Mittal, Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology.

DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:

The post-doc will be responsible for overseeing cell based assays and for in vivo murine tumor models, particularly as they relate to the immune microenvironment. The post –doc will also be involved with translational work with human samples, including analyzing blood samples and tumor and normal tissue, particularly by multi-channel immune fluorescent staining and by flow cytometry. Mouse models of lung cancer will also be utilized to interrogate the mechanisms identified from clinical findings. He/she will also conduct data analysis using biostatistics software and coordinate with bioinformatics collaborators. This person will also coordinate with internal and external collaborating investigators.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have a doctoral degree with background and technical skills in protein biochemistry and cancer biology and have a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published or accepted in major journals. Knowledge of biostatistics is required.

The candidate needs to be highly organized, maintain accurate experimental records, present at weekly lab meetings, journal club, national conferences and publish scientific papers. Qualified candidates must also have strong communication skills, have a strong passion and commitment to science, and work well within a diverse group of basic science researchers, thoracic surgeons, pathologists, nurses, clinical coordinators, post-docs, technicians, and graduate students.
