德国海德堡图像数据驱动计算生物学博后职位
Job Description
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarter Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK; EMBL-EBI), Monterotondo near Rome (Italy), and Barcelona (Spain). The Ellenberg and Ries laboratories in the Cell Biology & Biophysics Unit are looking for Postdoctoral Fellows in the area of image analysis and computational modeling for the analysis and interpretation of quantitative light and electron microscopy image data resolved in 3D and over time. The Ellenberg lab systematically elucidates the mechanisms underlying cell division and nuclear organisation by developing advanced fluorescence-based imaging technologies to assay the functions of the involved molecular machinery, automate imaging to address all its molecular components, and computationally process image data to extract biochemical and biophysical parameters. The Ries lab studies nanoscale multi-protein machineries in their functional cellular context, and elucidates their dynamic structural organisation developing and applying tailor-made super-resolution microscopy technologies.
More information can be found under https://www.embl.de/research/units/cbb/index.html The computational biologist will analyse image data to systematically and comprehensively extract quantitative parameters from them. These analysis routines will then be implemented to automate image data production by intelligent microscopy, in order to allow experimentalists to generate statistically relevant datasets. Based on these data, the computational biologist will develop mathematical models of the studied biological process and make experimentally testable predictions. The work will comprise technical as well as discovery aspects and will be carried out both independently and with internal and external collaborators, and in close collaboration with data producing biologists.
- Mathematical modelling of dynamic biological processes, such as assembly and disassembly of large protein complexes or chromosomes
- Advanced Image analysis and mining using statistics, machine learning and computer vision approaches
- Development of image analysis software tools
- Development of microscope hardware control software for automation of data generation
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D in a relevant field (e.g. physics, mathematics, computer science, biotechnology, engineering) and is expected to have a sufficient background in either mathematical modelling of biological processes and/or advanced image analysis/machine vision. A profound knowledge in statistics is also desired and knowledge of machine learning methods is an asset. The position requires experience in scripting. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, be very well organized, effective in multi-tasking, reliable, and enjoy working in an international team within a highly collaborative atmosphere. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are required.
Application Instructions
Please apply online through www.embl.org/jobs Please include a cover letter, CV and a description of research interests. Please also arrange for minimum 2 letters of recommendation to be included in the application documents.
Additional Information
For further information, please contact Dr. Stephanie Alexander, Research Manager at the CBB unit.
Interviews are planned for the week of 7th August. Candidates should arrange to be available. EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation.
Please note that appointments on fixed term contracts can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
