We are seeking a Research Associate to join a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team working on fabrication of photocatalysts and their application in both water splitting and CO2 conversion driven by solar energy. The EPSRC project targets to discover low cost and efficient photocatalysts (in particular polymer photocatalysts) for solar fuel synthesis by use of a Z-scheme and understand the mechanisms of the underlying the photochemical process. The group uses a wide range of wet chemical approaches for inorganic and polymeric material synthesis, and apply the state of the art spectroscopies to explore the reaction mechanism. Our long term aim is to generate an efficient Z-scheme system for renewable fuel synthesis.
The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary project, involving researchers from UCL Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Chemistry at Cardiff University, Chemical Engineering at University of Manchester and a few industrial partners with expertise in nanomaterials, ionic liquid, reactor engineering and modelling.
The post is for one year in the first instance with possibility of extension to 2 years.
The ideal candidate should have, or should be close to completing, a PhD or equivalent in heterogeneous catalysis or material chemistry. Expertise in heterogeneous catalysis and material chemistry is essential. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and leading a small research team, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
