This is a rare biomedical signal processing opportunity - you will have a pivotal role in translational medical device research, bridging the gap between academia, industry and the NHS.

Quick and easy measurement of intracranial pressure is one of the greatest challenges that exists for medical device development. Success would almost certainly herald a significant improvement in our ability to diagnose and care for many common medical conditions, including head injury, stroke, hydrocephalus, meningitis and some forms of dementia. Marchbanks Measurement Systems Ltd has developed a world leading technique in this important field and developments are under way to further improve the existing product.

Recognising the importance of this work Innovate UK have funded the NHS to thoroughly assess the performance of the device. A large data set has been gathered from patients and healthy volunteers. This post, based in the hospital in Southampton, is a central role in the team carrying out the analysis and interpretation of that data. This will include a substantial digital signal processing component in addition to developing an understanding of the complex physiology under investigation and helping to design and apply data processing methods to ensure that validation of the new non-invasive technique is both rigorous and effective.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of biomedical signal processing, a relevant PhD and a strong academic track record. This is a great opportunity for a post doc to gain some industrial experience. Most importantly this is an opportunity to take a central role in a very exciting project.
