We are looking for a self-motivating and dependable person to join our Lab in A Lorry team in Wales.
Lab in a Lorry is a mobile science laboratory that takes hands-on physics experiments to schools. Aimed at 11- to 14-year-olds, the three onboard experiments are run by volunteers who are local scientists and engineers.
The Lab in a Lorry Support Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Senior Lab In A Lorry Operations Coordinator in delivering the programme across Wales.
The postholder needs to ensure the quality of experience for all (teachers, students, volunteers and funders), take an active role in maintaining health and safety standards, act as spokesperson and provide feedback to other team members.
The role involves significant travel around the region (fewer than 10,000 miles a year) and will involve overnight stays away from home. When not out on the lorry, the postholder is expected to work from home, but office space is available in Cardiff if needed.
Responsibilities include:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the vehicle and experiments, including being present at venues when the vehicle arrives, maintaining stock, and basic experiment kit maintenance. Accurate record-keeping of the visits, including visitor numbers and feedback forms, is essential to this role. There will be a requirement to manage volunteers who provide support to run experiments on the lorry.

About you
We are looking for a proactive and flexible team player to join the team. Essential skills for this role include a science qualification or evidence of a keen interest and experience in science communication. You will need to have proven experience of working with a range of stakeholders including school students, teachers and volunteers. You will also have great interpersonal skills with excellent communication skills as well as experience of delivering work within the framework of a project.
The post is based wherever the lorry is operating, but is expected to be exclusively in Wales for the foreseeable future. The role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Salary: £21,500 – £22,500 full time (£8,600 – £9,000 pro rata)
Hours: 14 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term contract to 31 March 2018
