摘要:

At AstraZeneca we believe in the potential of our people and you'll develop beyond what you thought possible. We make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you to see what you can achieve. We need great people who share our passion for science and have the drive and determination to meet the unmet needs of patients around the world. If you're curious about what science can do , then you're our kind of person.

Our Discovery Sciences team operates from truly state-of-the-art centres spanning the UK, US and Sweden. You'll work with some of the most knowledgeable technology experts in the industry, all collaborating on high-profile drug discovery projects. With a wide range of responsibilities, from sample management and screening to bio-reagent supply, the opportunities to develop your expertise here are limitless.

Main duties and responsibilities

Merging organic synthesis with latest automation technology rapidly gains momentum in academia and industry. The potential to perform hundreds to thousands of experiments in parallel and thereby identify optimal reaction conditions and/or new molecules in a matter of a hours instead of days or weeks makes the automation of compound synthesis to a fascinated research field.

We are now looking for a talented organic chemist to join our Post Doc programme and to investigate the use of acoustic dispensing technologies in high throughput experimentation leading to the synthesis of compound libraries. Under the supervision of chemists from AstraZeneca, Prof Alexander Domling from the University of Groningen and technology experts from Labcyte, Sunnyvale California, you'll be experiencing a truely global scientific and pharmaceutical environment.

Your work will include pioneering the use of acoustic dispensing technology in high throughput organic synthesis and performing fundamental experiments to build your understanding of the scope and limitations of organic synthesis in nano litre volumes. You'll also be developing protocols for the synthesis of novel screening libraries on assay ready plates. Your ability to collaborate with scientists across multiple disciplines and also work independently, will be essential. We'll expect you to communicate your results within AstraZeneca via global working groups, as well as at external scientific meetings and through high impact publications.

This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your skills in synthetic organic chemistry, the use of high throughput dispensing and analysis technologies, and medicinal chemistry, all in a creative drug discovery scientific environment. Guided and mentored by medicinal chemists at AstraZeneca Gothenburg you'll enjoy this unique opportunity to strengthen your overall scientific and technology skills at the interface between small molecule synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

Based in Discovery Sciences, you'll interact and collaborate closely with scientists in our Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease, Respiratory and Inflammation areas, as well as Oncology. You'll also be part of the ""Excellence in synthesis and chemistry automation team"", a vibrant, multicultural group focusing on the integration of chemical technology and automation to challenging strategic medicinal chemistry tasks.

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Excellent skills with organic chemistry, purification and structural elucidation techniques
  • Interest in high throughput chemistry and new technologies
  • Strong passion and commitment towards science
  • Experience of working towards defined goals in an efficient, safe and scientifically sound manner
  • Background of presenting results at scientific conferences and publishing scientific papers in high quality, peer-reviewed journals
