The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB):
Research Associate (Post Doc) on project in large-scale numerical optimization
· Fixed-term contract, duration up to 3 years, 40h/week
· Start date: as soon as possible
· Ref.: R-AGR-3146-10-C
Area: Large-scale numerical optimization
Role:
Exploitation, development, and dissemination of optimization methods for biological problems, specifically
· Exploitation of existing optimization methods with high-performance computing
o Evaluate and tailor existing software to maximize performance for medium to large-scale problems
o Parallelize existing optimization methods for large to huge-scale problems
· Implement and benchmark the new algorithms by high-performance computing
o Develop and disseminate open-source software for medium to large-scale problems
· Assistance in PhD student supervision.
· Writing of grant applications, project reports, and scientific papers.
· Close collaboration and knowledge exchange with national and international collaborators.
Profile:
· A PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, computational engineering, mathematical engineering, or a related discipline.
· A comprehensive understanding of and evidence of primary research within numerical optimization is essential.
· Experience with development of numerical software is essential.
· Experience with efficient numerical solution of large-scale optimization problems is essential.
· No knowledge of biology is expected, but a willingness to work as part of an interdisciplinary team is essential.
· Excellent written English is essential.
