Post Doctoral Researcher Translational Intestinal Models
Janssen Pharmaceutica joined the Johnson & Johnson group in 1961. Today, Janssen Pharmaceutica is one of the most innovative pharmaceutical companies in the world. Our research and development centre develops products for a wide range of disease areas, such as mental disorders, neurological problems, infectious diseases, immunological disorders, cancer, and cardiovascular and metabolic conditions.
The Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics & Metabolism (PDM) division within Janssen is looking for a bright and enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher interested in advancing their scientific career within a highly collaborative and cutting edge research environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a new translational research project aimed to characterize and validate next-generation intestinal research models/approaches and to introduce novel endpoints which will allow a direct clinical translation.
The overarching goal of this 3-year project is really to significantly enhance our mechanistic insights on how the intestine plays a key role in drug disposition, safety and efficacy of novel therapeutic approaches. Some expected deliverables for the Post Doc Translational Intestinal Models are novel in vitro methods/approaches to:
- Predict intestinal compound concentrations
- Extrapolate (in vitro to in vivo) intestinal transporter and enzymatic activity data
- Predict intestinal mediated drug-drug interactions
- Study the interplay between the intestine and liver
- Investigate intestinal barrier function.
- Develop/Evaluate in vitro intestinal models to predict gastrointestinal toxicity in animal and man
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
Strong Scientific interest with proven capability to perform independent research indicated by a solid scientific track record.
Ability to independently determine study design, execution, data analysis and interpretation of in vitro studies. A strong interest in practical in vitro studies and a keen interest in troubleshooting will be vital to ensure successful completion of the project.
- Very good theoretical knowledge and practical experience of culturing cell lines and primary cells (eg Caco-2, primary enterocytes, animal and human intestinal organoids,…).
- The applicant displays a high degree of scientific curiosity and creativity required to tackle complex investigational hypotheses. Therefore, an in depth knowledge of literature is required to function as an internal expert.
- Ability to manage multiple divergent research lines without losing track of project timelines and project status.
- Good interpersonal skills are required to maintain efficient interactions with internal and external collaborators.
- Knowledge of the physiology of the digestive system is a plus.
Excellent organizational skills and knowledge of the English language is required (oral/written)
