The duties include isolation and characterization of stem cells from the bone marrow and reprogramming cells into iPS cells; mass culturing of these cells for injection into ischemic hearts or dystrophic muscle, histological preparations of heart tissues for infarct and fibrosis measurements, immunocytochemical analysis of stem cells , blood vessel density and myocyte formation in the infarcted tissues; transfection of stem cells with cytokines prior to transplantation. Numerous biochemical, and molecular biology techniques will be performed including enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA and protein gel electrophoresis, Western immunoblotting, Northern blotting, flow cytometry, phase contrast, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, and ultrastructural analysis using transmission electron microscopy. In addition, he/she will be responsible for ordering supplies for the lab.
