Postdoctoral Research Scientist
The Columbia University Radiological Research Accelerator Facility (RARAF.org) has a Postdoctoral Scientist position available. RARAF is a multidisciplinary research facility specializing in precision irradiation and analysis of biological samples using a variety of innovative radiation sources. The long term focus is understanding mechanisms of cellular radiation damage and repair.
The applicant will be involved in ongoing projects involving precise irradiation systems using charged particles and photons. Possible projects involve development of a UV-based wound sterilization system or a carbon ion irradiation system for pre-clinical studies.
The candidate should have a PhD in physics or engineering with an emphasis on design, construction and implementation of custom research devices. A background in ion beam optics, light microscopy or irradiation systems is preferred though not essential. The candidate must be able to work in a group/team environment consisting of physicists, engineers, and biologists while also being able to work independently. Strong communication skills are need for writing and presentation of research in a multi-disciplinary research environment.
