POST-DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE

Basic Summary:
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in Dr. Mohammad Faghihi's lab. This position works in the Center for Therapeutic Innovation. The Post-Doctoral Associate should have expertise in Genetics and Population Genetics, non-protein coding RNAs, epigenetics, transcriptomics or molecular neuroscience for the neurodegenerative disorders team. The goal of the interdisciplinary and highly collaborative faculty is to discover the genetic and epigenetic influences on human health and apply this knowledge to the practice of medicine through improved diagnostics, treatments and medications. The research efforts focus on genetics and variation in regulatory regions of the genome, the regulation of gene expression by long non-protein coding RNA transcripts, especially as these entities/processes relate to neurodevelopment disorders. The work involves the use of molecular biology techniques, cell biology and broad-scale genomics approaches. The Post-Doctoral Associate works with a team of distinguished scientists to characterize regulatory variants related to human disorders, biomarkers, as well as novel therapeutic targets for neurodevelopmental disorders. Duties involve preparing manuscripts and managing existing projects. Also assists in the development of research programs, including specific proposals with detailed rationale, background data, proposed methods and organization, identifying resources required and planning for data analysis.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. or M.D. in a life science field of study with experience in molecular genetics and/or molecular biology techniques preferred. Seeking a person with expertise in genetics and population genetics. Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to develop protocols and skilled in manuscript preparation. Ability to coordinator research projects. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant experience may be considered.
