摘要:

Laboratory/Department: Gene Expression Laboratory

The research focuses on an important problem related to cancer etiology, detection, and treatment. Currently, the studies revolve around the mammary gland to study breast cancer from a developmental perspective. Specifically, we are developing novel in vivo and in vitro strategies to determine whether breast cancer arises from mutations within the stem cells that generate this tissue, and/or whether cells can reprogram in vivo to a stem-like state. Our long-term goals are to determine whether such cells exhibit growth requirements and patterns of drug sensitivity that can be targeted to enable development of more effective diagnostics and therapeutics.

Position Description:

A funded post-doctoral position is immediately available for a person with knowledge of mouse mammary gland embryology and developmental biology. The project concerns the development of molecular genetic methods to identify, isolate and characterize putative stem cells in the developing mouse mammary gland. The ideal candidate would have experience with molecular and embryologic techniques such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, RNA-sequencing, single cell methods for transcriptional analysis, PCR, and mouse genetic manipulations. Above all, they should be intellectually curious, productive, and enjoy working in a committed team effort to make this important project succeed. The project is well under way due to the efforts of a dedicated group of post-docs, technicians and undergrads.

Education:

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences

Experience:

Required:
•Experience with bioinformatics, especially regarding analysis of RNA-seq data.
•Experience with molecular and embryologic techniques such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, RNA-sequencing, single cell methods for transcriptional analysis, and PCR.

Preferred:
•Mouse genetic manipulations.

Application Instructions:

Applicants should submit a current CV, names of three references, and an indication of the experimental direction they would like to pursue based on their reading of our recent papers.
