The Centre for Immunity, Infection and Evolution (http://ciie.bio.ed.ac.uk) at the University of Edinburgh is a Wellcome Trust funded Centre that aims to combat infectious diseases through interdisciplinary approaches. We encourage infection biologists, immunologists, evolutionary biologists, epidemiologists and mathematical modellers to work together and this ambition is sustained by a cohort of CIIE fellows, who drive collaboration between groups, or pursue their own interdisciplinary research ideas with the goal of securing independent research funding. With the recent success in funding applications by our current CIIE fellows, we now have the opportunity to support 1 or 2 additional CIIE fellows for up to 12 months (i.e. until early 2017). We aim to support individuals able to make a strong contribution to the Centre, both in terms of our research but also in the planning and organisation of Centre symposia, and other activities. We anticipate these posts would be most beneficial to a recent PhD student who would be a strong candidate for a successful Sir Henry Wellcome award (or equivalent), or a post-doctoral researcher planning to submit independent funding applications in the next year. Fitting our remit, individuals keen to pursue really interdisciplinary projects and/or translational projects and fully engage with the Centre’s activities will be strongly prioritised.
Applicants will hold, or expect to hold, a PhD qualification.
