瑞典查尔姆斯理工大学工业生物技术组招聘蛋白质工程研究博士后
Postdoctoral position in Protein engineering : Gothenburg, Sweden
Information about the research group
The Industrial biotechnology group is a young, dynamic and international group, which was established in 2008 and now counts 30 members. The common denominator of the research activities in the group is utilization of renewable raw materials for a sustainable production of fuels and chemicals within a biorefinery concept. The research performed within the group spans from fundamental research to technology development and lab-scale applications, ensuring deep knowledge of the studied systems and rational development and optimization of the respective applications. The research fields include production of biofuels and chemicals via fermentation, enzymatic refining of biomass, bioelectrochemical systems, anaerobic digestion and algal biotechnology.
BioBuF is a project where a novel biorefinery concept is being developed, wherein renewable raw materials from the forest industry is being converted to bulk and added-value products. The project is a cross-disciplinary collaboration including technology development, systems integration and environmental impact assessment. More info is found here: www.biobuf.se
Major responsibilities
This post doc position will be associated to the BioBuF project and be focused on engineering of ammonia lyase as part of our pathway engineering effort. Using Site-directed mutagenesis, DNA shuffling and saturation mutagenesis the aim is to engineer the ammonia lyase to enable novel pathways. In the work: activity screening, cloning, expression, protein production, protein purification and detailed characterization will be performed. You will be an active group member that will share knowledge and collaborate with the group members working on enzymology and pathway engineering. You will participate in project meetings and group meetings and collaboration with international partners. Some work in external lab will be performed.
Your major responsibility as PostDoc is to perform your own research within the Industrial Biotechnology research group. The position may also include supervision of master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is for 20 months.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position as PostDoc, you must have a doctoral degree, generally not older than three years in biochemistry, enzymology or other related disciplines.
Practical experience in protein engineering, including molecular biology, enzymology and screening of mutants, and fluent communication skills in English (both written and oral) are required. University courses or equivalent in enzymology, protein modeling and bioinformatics are qualifying merits.
You are expected to demonstrate good potential for research and education. Important qualities are motivation, being able to drive and complete projects independently, taking own initiative and discuss/develop own ideas, be creative and have a problem-solving ability, and to be a mature person also realising your own limitations. The project is part of an interdisciplinary collaboration with several other research groups and thus good cooperation and social abilities are highly important.
The position requires fluent verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
