A Research Associate is sought to work on a project forming the basis of a new direction in studying spinal cord motor circuits. Working at the interface of cellular and systems neuroscience, the post holder will study spinal motor circuits using whole cell patch clamp techniques, with a focus on the electrophysiological study of identified neuronal subtypes using in vitro spinal cord preparations. S/he will also conduct behavioural studies in genetically-altered mice, and assist in setting up the lab (relocating from Canada).
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, and the ability to study single neurons using whole cell patch clamp techniques, and use basic molecular biology, microscopy and immunohistochemistry techniques. The ability to organise and prioritise own work, write clearly and succintly for publication, and interact successfully with others is essential; experience with confocal microscopy is desirable.
The post is available immediately, and is funded for two years in the first instance. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £33,686 per annum inclusive, superannuable.
