One postdoc position for a 3‐year period with the possibility of a 4th year extension

Responsibilities include:
Preparation of a postdoctoral thesis (Habilitationsschrift)/ second book/ research study as a sub-project of the ERC Consolidator Grant research project on the abduction of people to the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and its successor states in the long 18th century. Since the individual sub-projects are all closely connected, willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to the shared database is expected. Therefore, candidates must be prepared to reside in Bremen and, if seeking Habilitation, submit their work to the University of Bremen. Funds for travel to archives and libraries are available. No teaching duties are involved.
Qualifications:
- Completed university degree program in History (Master’s, Magister, Staatsexamen)
- Completed doctorate in History of the Early Modern Period
- Dedication to teamwork and independent research
- Very good German language proficiency (minimum level C1); if not yet attained at the time of application, candidates must be willing and able to reach indicated proficiency level through further language study within a short time; working languages are German and English
Prior work on postcolonial studies, global history, the history of slavery and/or history of the 18th century, as well as knowledge of Danish are desirable.
