Job Description
An infectious disease laboratory with an emphasis on malaria research is seeking a highly independent, ambitious Ph.D. level scientist with extensive experience (minimum of 2 years) in proteomics and mass spectrometry. This postdoctoral position has extensive opportunities for growth and development for academic- and industry-oriented individuals.
The primary research goal for the position is the application of advanced mass spectrometry and protein separation methods towards the study of Plasmodium parasite interaction with both the mosquito and human hosts as well as intrinsic parasite developmental/cellular biology. The individual will be directly integrated with high level programmatic decisions with the PI and will be expected to participate in grant writing, manuscript preparation, team leadership and independent research project development and subsequent management. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in advanced courses (off-site) to further augment his or her molecular skill set.
This position requires expert knowledge in mass spectrometry, protein separation and characterization by chromatography and standard protein bioinformatics. General responsibilities include training of staff and fellow lab members, independently designing and performing experiments as well as contributing to the general maintenance of the wet laboratory. Major responsibilities include general oversight of mass spectrometry instrumentation in the lab including direct operation and maintenance of instruments including a LC-Q-TOF and a Triple Quadrupole Mass spectrometer. Protein separation experience including nano and fast-flow HPLC for size exclusion, ion exchange and gel electrophoresis (1DE and 2DE), to name a few, is required. BSL2 laboratory operations and a familiarity with microbial practice and procedures are preferred. Extensive familiarity with Agilent instrumentation is very much preferred but individuals with similar expertise in other platforms are also encouraged to apply.
Qualifications: PhD (a minimum of 2 years of direct experience with the above approaches) or equivalent, in biology, chemistry, protein chemistry or a related field required. Experience in glycomic (carbohydrate) analysis is a huge plus. |
