Job Purpose

Based in the University of Birmingham Primary Care Clinical Sciences, this post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to an NIHR funded Programme which aims to help primary care, and community based mental health services work more closely together by developing a system of collaborative care based in GP surgeries for people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The post holder will be responsible for the participant recruitment, refining data collection tools and processes, and facilitating data collection, data entry and data management. This post is ideal for a researcher with experience of medical research including focus groups, randomised controlled trials and specific primary care experience would be an advantage.

Applicants must have a degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience. Ideally the post holder will have experience of working in the NHS or Higher education in a relevant healthcare subject and an understanding of research methodology, both in qualitative and quantitative research paradigms. They will need to be able to travel independently to various locations across Trusts geographical area

The post will be based with Dr Humera Plappert (programme manager) at the University of Birmingham who will oversee data collection and analysis, working in collaboration with the CI, academic partners, site PIs, and our PPI groups.

Person Specification

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant healthcare subject area
  • Working experience in the NHS or Higher education in relevant healthcare subject
  • Understanding of research methodology, both in qualitative and quantitative research paradigms
  • Ability to travel independently to various locations across Trusts geographical area
  • Understanding of Clinical Research Networks
  • IT literate and competent to a high level
  • Strong understanding of databases and study documentation
  • Knowledge of research specific regulations and guidelines e.g.: Research Governance and Good Clinical Practice
  • Ability to analyse and interpret written and numerical data
  • Working independently with moderate direct supervision
  • Meticulous administrative skills in order to maintain study records
  • Organisational skills including prioritisation, time management and ability to organise own workload
  • Ability to work independently with moderate direct supervision
  • Good telephone manner, letter, report and scientific writing skills, ability to persuade and deliver information effectively through presentations
  • Good presentation skills and the confidence to communicate effectively with professionals of all levels
  • Aptitude for learning new skills
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work as a team player
