摘要:

We would like to invite applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics. The successful candidate will have a leading role in an exciting new Motor Neurone Disease Association funded project. The project is a collaboration between researchers working in motor neuron disease, and computer scientists working with biological information.

The postholder will develop a platform (using technology such as Docker, iRods and TranSMART for example) that will let researchers easily use and share genetic, clinical and lifestyle information that has already been collected, and add new information as it is produced. The system will make it easy to see patterns in the relationship between clinical features, lifestyle, and gene variations, to compare genetic variations between groups of people, and to share the information between research groups.
The system will be developed in collaboration and consultation with the ENCALS European research group, and the NEALS US-based research group, as well as research consortia within the US, Europe, and internationally, to make sure that it provides solutions that everyone finds useful, and will be widely used.
This post will be based within the NIHR BRC for Mental Health bioinformatics group (15 post docs; core.brc.iop.kcl.ac.uk) and the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience based at King’s College London, but collaborating with Dr Ben Neale at the Broad Institute and colleagues in the European JPND funded STRENGTH consortium. The group has extensive experience in the development of similar pipelines using Docker for example (http://khp-informatics.github.io/ngs/)

Essential: the successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical genetics). Relevant programming skills are required. The candidate should have experience with writing and publishing papers of high scientific standards.

Desirable: Specific knowledge of tools such as iRods, Transmart, Docker and similar, as well as a keen interest in initiatives such as the Global Alliance for Genomic Health.

To apply for this post, you will need to register with the Hirewire system first to download and submit the application form. Please note, should you wish to submit a CV or a short statement, you will need to copy & paste these documents after the application form as the system will only accept one document to be uploaded.
