Post-doctoral position in Biochemistry with a focus on Biological Mass Spectrometry.

POSITION
There is an opening for a research post-doctoral fellow at Queens University in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine. The primary work is in biochemistry especially focusing on biomedical Mass Spectrometry of small molecules, so excellent LC-MS/MS experience is a must. The successful candidate will be familiar with method development by LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and enzymatic measurement of lysosomal enzymes, as well as quantification of polar lipids.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and validate a mass-spectrometric high through-put method for measuring hexosaminidase, a lysosomal enzyme using newborn blood spots as the source of the enzyme.
2. Develop methods for biomarkers for diagnosis and follow-up of patients/animals with Tay Sachs, Sandhoff, and related diseases. 
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in biochemistry or related field with excellent hands -on experience in HPLC and LC-MS/MS of small molecules. An aptitude and ability to work with computers, experience in enzyme analysis and in handling biological samples, and advanced knowledge of English is essential as this is the working language. 
TERMS AND SALARY
This is a full-time position, starting immediately. The term is a one year appointment, but may be renewed for a second year. Annual salary will be $35,000CAD, but maybe negotiable.
