PhD Position in Environmental Microbiology at Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark : Odense M, Denmark

We offer a PhD position to study highly corrosive methanogenic strains which the student will isolate from corroded oil/gas pipes provided by our collaborators from the Danish Technological Institute.

The student will identify chemical and molecular fingerprints which characterize the initiation of corrosion. The ultimate goal will be to discover what promotes electron uptake from metallic iron so we can develop tools to fight corrosion by discouraging microbial attachment and electron retrieval.

The candidate should have a strong background in molecular microbiology and should be experienced with growth of anaerobic microorganisms. The candidate is expected to collaborate closely with the postdoctoral researcher associated with the project.
