摘要:

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf e. V. (HZDR) has an excellent reputation as an international competence centre for research in the sectors health, energy and matter with more than 1,100 employees. HZDR is a member of Germany`s largest research organisation - Helmholtz Association (HGF). Further information can be found at http://www.hzdr.de.

The Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research invites applications as

PostDoc (m/f) in atomistic simulations of irradiation effects in solids

The position will be available from 01.11.2015 in a newly established theory group dedicated to atomic simulations of irradiation phenomena in materials. The regular weekly working time will be 39 hours per week. The employment contract is limited to three years. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD-Bund. The place of work is Dresden-Rossendorf.

Requirements:

- PhD degree in solid-state physics or materials science

- extensive experience in using atomistic simulations at the density functional theory (DFT), tight-binding and empirical potential Ievels, preferably with good knowledge of time-dependent DFT and Ehrenfest dynamics

- experience in simulations of irradiation effects in solids is desirable, but is not mandatory

- experience in using/developing DFT code GPAW is highly desirable

- good scripting and programming experience

Tasks:

The primary focus of the project work will be using atomistic simulations at the density functional theory, tight-binding and empirical potential Ievels to study the effects of ion and electron irradiation on low-dimensional materials such as graphene or transition metal di-chalcogenides, as well as bulk solids. Development of new simulation approaches based on time-dependent density-functional theory (Ehrenfest dynamics) is planned. The project will involve extensive collaborations with the experimental groups at the Ion Beam Center (HZDR), and also external collaborations with several theory groups in Germany (TU Dresden), Finland (Aalto University) and Denmark (DTU).
